Young people´s welfare, education and career development (YWEC)

The research program Young people´s welfare, education and career development (YWEC) concerns young people in school and in the school-to-work transition, young people´s welfare and career development in individual, institutional and political perspectives. It is headed by professor Lisbeth Lundahl, BUSV.

In Sweden, educational, welfare and youth research are mostly separate fields, while the need of an integrated approach is obvious. YWEC includes research on career guidance, which is a clearly neglected research field in Sweden today.
At present, YWEC includes 19 senior and junior researchers: 3 professors, two research associates, 7 postdocs/senior lecturers and 7 PhD students (or corresponding). They mostly work at the BUSV department, but also at other departments, e.g. the departments of social work, political science and behavioral measurement.

Ongoing Research projects

YWEC connects a number of ongoing research projects, most of which are headed by researchers in Umeå. Two are them are headed by prof. Elisabet Öhrn, Gothenburg university, and include researchers from the Umeå team.
